Heaven's Will (Spoilers)

My first manga blah on Untara Kantara x3 Yayyyyyy! Has spoilers in it!!

Heaven's Will is a one volume shojo about a girl who can see spirits. However, her special ability makes everyday life a hassle because these ghouls aren't satisfied with just being seen. They like getting up and personal with our main heroine. While she can punch one or two of them away when she remembers to, most of the time her chosen action is to run away, crying about how her life sucks.

Our story takes flight when Mikuzu (the main chick) stumbles across a dick cross-dressing exorcist and his equally dick vampire wolf friend while trying to run away from yet another giant fat spirit. Rather than help her out of the goodness of their hearts (lol never in shojo!), they use the situation to get Mikuzu to make a deal with them - protection in exchange for cake.

Don't ask.

Afterwards, for reasons to create drama, the dick cross dresser acts like an even bigger dick to Mikuzu because all she does is cry and kick spirits when attacked. For once, ladies and gentlemen, I am in opposition to a male lead about a crybaby character. Yeah, Mikuzu cries like a bitch and whines about her powers but I sympathize with her. Not only can she see things others can't, but these "things" try and attack her. Unlike Seto who has the power of exorcism at his disposal, Mikuzu has no special powers other than her sight to defend herself. Running and throwing a punch every know and then is the best she's got at protecting herself. When giant fat monsters attack, hell yeah she's going to run away crying about how her life sucks. What else is she going to do? Stand there and kick it? Stupid fuck. *exhales anger*

Ahem, back to the review.

Being yelled at makes Mikuzu sad and she runs away and shit happens but through the power of shojo everyone makes up. End of one-shot. But that's not it. The manga-ka of our one-shot was asked to continue Heaven's Will (er, actually it's "The Heaven You Will One Day Return To."). The rest of the volume deals with a three chapter long adventure concerning a haunted piano.

I can safely say the series went even further downhill than it was originally at with the one-shot.

Somehow the reason Seto crossdressed was changed from I LOOK GOOD IN WOMEN'S CLOTHING in the oneshot to I'M GOING TO TURN INTO MYSELF INTO A WOMAN LITERALLY (LIKE CUTTING MY BALLS OFF) SO MY DEAD SISTER WHO IS LIVING IN MY FAN BTW CAN TAKE OVER MY BODY AND I CAN DIE BECAUSE I SHOULD HAVE NEVER LIVED EMOOOOOOOO in the continuation. He also suffered from multiple personality disorder in the continuation. Never seen a guy bounce from emo to happy to dick to sad so quickly! Kagari (the dick vampire wolf guy here to the left) is pretty much still a dick in the continuation. I liked his face but the rest of him can get violated by a gang of monkeys. He kind of redeems himself at the end but it was 200 pages too late. Mikuzu - poor girl - tries her best but as a person with no powers other than to see the things that want to attack her, she was pretty much left useless. But hey, at least she gets an A for effort.

The end was very open. Don't expect any closure or...just the feeling of "this is a good place to stop." I felt like we just started our adventure only to have it canceled early due to food poisoning or our car broke down :( Very disappointing.

[I should mention the manga-ka explained she was moving while she was writing up Heaven's Will (thus why it seems so choppy). She had originally planned for the series to be longer and for Mikuzu and Seto to fall in love and have babies, but that never happened. To which I'm strangely grateful for o___O;]

In conclusion, with Heaven's Will, I felt like I got on a bus heading for my destination - the end - but the bus driver was a NASCAR racer on drugs because he floored it down the streets only to drive us off a cliff that I have no explanation on how that got there since we're in the city, leaving us stranded at the bottom. The end feels incomplete. I didn't get to bond with the characters because too much was happening too fast. Also, I didn't like anyone, which is sad. .

I got Heaven's Will on sale for like $3 at Half Priced Books. The art was pretty but that's about it. Overall, this blogger did not enjoy her read :( Sorry, gang.

PS. I guess there is a side- story one-shot in another tankoubon of this manga-ka's called S x M. It focuses on the vampire dog guy Kagari's past. From what I saw, he gets amnesia, makes friends with some chick, gets his memories back, acts like a dick and reveals he killed the chick's mom, the chick protects him from getting shanked because she's dumb, she tells Kagari to go fuck himself when he tries to turn her into a vampire, she dies, and Kagari becomes emo :/ Wow....
